#5 Pagani Zonda C12 F $667,321

Produced by a small independent company in Italy, the Pagani Zonda C12 F is the fifth-fastest car in the world. But speed is not the only criterion for these most expensive vehicles. There is certainly something to be said for rarity and exclusivity. Zonda has that in spades, as only about 10 are produced each year and just over 100 exist on the planet. It can be expected to deliver a top speed of 215 mph and to reach 0-60 in 3.5 seconds. It debuted in 1999 and production continues through today, with both two-seat coupe and convertible versions available
#4 Ferrari Enzo $670,000

Sometimes naming a car after a person works and sometimes it does not. (Remember, there WAS a real person named Edsel Ford.) The vehicle named after Enzo Ferrari is an example of a wildly successful namesake. This is probably the best known supercar ever built. The Enzo has a top speed of 217 mph, and it reaches 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. Only 400 Enzos were produced, and they currently go for over $1 million at auctions. Apparently, the laws of new car depreciation reverse somewhere around the half million DOLLAR mark. The 400th Ferrari Enzo was auctioned for $1,274,229 by Sotheby's Maranello Auction on June 28, 2005, to benefit survivors of the 2004 tsunami.
#3 McLaren F1 $970,000

In 1994, the McLaren F1 was the fastest and most expensive car in the world. For perspective on this, when 1994 began O.J. Simpson was most famous for being a football star and actor. Also in 1994... the NAFTA treaty took effect, Lorena Bobbitt was found not guilty by reason of insanity and the New York Rangers won the Stanley Cup. Yes, that was quite a while ago, huh? Our point is that even 15 years later the McLaren F1 is still up there with the very elite superstar supercars. It has a top speed of 240 mph and reaches 60 mph in 3.2 seconds. But as with many cars on this list, wanting an F1 and being able to afford one are not enough. Only 106 cars were manufactured, just 64 of which were the standard street version.
#2 Lamborghini Reventon $1.6 million

The Lamborghini Reventon is a mid-engined sports car that debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show. It has the distinction of being the most powerful and expensive Lamborghini road car ever built. It takes 3.3 seconds to reach 60 mph and has a top speed of 211 mph. Only 20 of this model were ever built, and each Reventon is clearly stamped with its number in the sequence of 20 between the driver's and passenger's seats.
#1 Bugatti Veyron $1.7 million

Would you believe that the most expensive car in the world was developed by Volkswagen? The Bugatti Veyron is a mid-engine grand tourer developed by Volkswagen and produced by the Volkswagen-brand Bugatti Automobiles SAS at their headquarters in Chateau St. Jean in Molsheim (Alsace, France). This is by far the most expensive street-legal car available on the MARKET today. Still, you would probably enjoy owning a Bugatti Veyron, you think?
