KING JOHN'S ENGLISH CASTLE MAKES A LUXURIOUS HOLIDAY HOME

The King John’s Castle in Wiltshire, England, dates back to 1080 and was rebuilt in 1830. The Grade 1 listed building can accommodate up to 13 guests throughout it's 7 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. The castle has a vast history and at one point it was used as a prison by Henry II and Henry III, it later became the property of Henry VIII's wife Catherine of Aragon.

The castle has a wealth of period features with intricate stone archways, impressive original fireplaces, oak-strip floors, stone spiral staircases and ornately carved ceilings. Guests are greeted by a large entrance hall complete with solid oak double doors and containing an impressive dark wooden staircase. The castle offers many grand spaces to relax and enjoy the surrounding countryside from within. The drawing room offers a relaxing space with country green walls lined with leather bound books. The Drawing room, complete with chaise lounges, overlooks the view of the estate and proposes the perfect space to take advance of the spa treatments that are available on request at the castle. The dining room, a few steps down from the drawing room, impresses with a large oak table fit for 18 guests and boasts ‘His’ and ‘Hers’ carved thrones. This creates a faultless setting to enjoy an evening around the original open fire which can be completed with your own personal chef upon request. The Ballroom is an ideal extension from the dining room finishing the evening of in style beneath an intricate wooden beam feature ceiling and ornate windows framing the English countryside.


The master bedroom is one of a kind with a mahogany sleigh bed finished with a canopy, draped in the finest embroidered silk with matching silk curtains framing and dressing the castles windows exquisitely. However the key feature within the master bedroom has to be your very own chapel door leading to a sumptuous en-suite with double sinks, free standing shower and bath.
The estates tranquil setting with south facing landscaped gardens offers the perfect hide away this summer. With many activities available locally such as the iconic Stonehedge, Roman Baths Museum and Waltworth’s Brewery, the castle offers many exciting days out. The local village of Laylock, located nearby, was founded in the early 13th century and plays host to Lacock Abbey. The village also made an appearance in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

The castle also offers Clay Pigeon shooting at the local shooting school. The King John’s Castle is located approximately an hour and a half away from London or 45 minutes from Bath, to allow an easy commute.
