WELCOME TO BARBIE'S WORLD

Creative director of Italian fashion brand Moschino turned heads during Milan Fashion Week when he showcased his latest collection for SS/15; previously Jeremy Scott has taken inspiration from the fast food chain McDonalds as well as cartoon character SpongeBob Square Pants.

However his latest inspiration was a little more plastic, Jeremy’s muse for this collection was Barbie and legally blonde character Elle Woods.

He swapped the famous McDonalds arches for a girly font and a colour palette of bright pink, the clothes looked as if they had been taken straight from Barbie’s closet and the invitations were a giant plastic comb which looked as if it had been made for My Little Pony. In an attempt to bring the Barbie character to life on the runway, each model wore two layers of false eyelashes and M.A.C makeup artists made their skin look waxy and plastic.

The audience held their breath as a model whizzed down the runway in roller-skates and the first half of the show was awash bubble gum pink. Each model wore a platinum blonde wig and Jeremy literally devised every Barbie doll character possible such as Gym Bunny Barbie, Cowgirl Barbie, Boarding a Plane Barbie and Beach Barbie.

The outfits included cute co-ords, chain belts, a variety of sequin pieces and a towel dress to name a few. There was an abundance of snazzy accessories - a Barbie suitcase, a yellow camera, a Perspex clutch and a variety of cool embellished sunglasses. Each model embraced their individual Barbie persona when they strutted down the catwalk, to bring the clothes and the dolls to life.

The finale of the show featured dresses that were fit for an 80’s beauty queen and was every five year old girls dream. There were feather boas, huge pink bows, metallic mermaid gowns and even a white pearlised suit.

Jeremy Scott certainly lived up to our expectations; he even gave everyone who attended the show their very own Moschino Barbie doll as a memento. Although the full collection hasn’t been released just yet, there are a variety of pieces from the Show available to buy online at Moschino.com.
